Cyndy Severson
is an award winning, interior designer, photo stylist and writer with a broad range of design experience. She is often referred to as an “architect’s designer” because of her interest in and dedication to architecture. She is known for her regional design sensibilities, as seen in her country houses, and hospitality projects, which show a love for local materials and craftsmanship.

Her career started in Austin Texas with a group of architects and artists, renovating and restoring turn of the century buildings in the historic Warehouse District. The Driskill Hotel was one of these projects teaming Severson with German Architect, Thomas Gehrig and winning an Austin Heritage Award. This led to other hospitality projects for clients such as: Hilton, Westin, Celebration Restaurants, Texas Country Clubs, DFW Airport and Addison Jetport (winning an IBD/Interior Design Magazine’s silver award).

In addition to her interior design work, Severson worked for ten years as a set designer for National TV spots and film including advertisers such as: Coca-Cola, Miller Beer, Phillips Petroleum, J.C. Penney. This led to styling for photographers. She became a contributor to Texas Monthly Magazine early on and spent 10 years producing consumer related articles. Her articles and design work have also appeared in Texas Homes, Texas Architect, Domain, DMagazine, Interior Design Magazine and Dallas Morning News. Her first book, Hill Country Houses, Refined Living in a Legendary Texas Landscape, will be released in Oct. 2014.

Severson refers to her career as a series of fortunate collaborations and views architects as her greatest influences. One of these was, Frank Welch, the talented regional Architect from West Texas. They collaborated on several projects: an iconic ranch house, Pinnacle Golf Club, and other residences. This was the turning point in her career–when she realized the importance of regional culture in Texas, not just for it’s influence on media, but it’s architectural influence as well. She is dedicated to preserving Texas history by preserving its buildings, its land and by using sustainable products. Her work with talented Texas architects has resulted in award winning projects for hotels, country clubs and country houses. Severson divides her time between Texas and Mexico, where she continues to design houses and write.
